On Nov. 27, 2012, the Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners approved the addition of fluoride to the Pinellas County water system.
The level of fluoride in the drinking water will be adjusted to 0.7 parts per million (PPM). This water fluoridation program will provide a level recommended for optimal dental health which can significantly reduce the occurrences of tooth decay.
Fluoride’s ability to inhibit or even reverse the onset and development of dental caries is well documented by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA), the Center for Disease Control (CDC), and the American Dental Association (ADA).
For more information on Pinellas County services and programs, visit www.pinellascounty.org or create a shortcut to www.pinellascounty.org/mobile on any smartphone. Pinellas County government is on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. Pinellas County complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Serious? Fluoride actually overtime decays your teeth. Do research for yourself.
It also calcifies the pineal gland and creates over activity in the thyroid gland.
And in case you're unaware the pineal gland is your gateway to dreams and intuition and visions etc. It is the key to our "6th sense." Oh and the thyroid.. well, I honestly hope you know that ones functions.
Science is useless unless the care of the people as a WHOLE is taken into account and ACTUAL research for the long run is being done.

Well, adding fluoride to the water is about 50 years too late, but better late than never. It's shameful that the city has waited this long to do what other cities around the nation have done for decades.

Fluoride is a poison and should have never been allowed to be put back into our public water supply. Check out the dangers of fluoride here on Dr. Joseph Mercola's site: http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2011/10/11/dr-bill-osmunson-on-fluoride.aspx

Fluoride is junk! Guess it's back to drinking expensive, imported bottled water. Those freakin' dentists who supported fluoride being added back into our drinking water should be tarred & feathered. I specifically tell my dentist NO fluoride treatments when I get my teeth cleaned...haven't had any cavities in YEARS!

How wonderful; the Flat Earth Society is at it again.
Science?
Who needs it!
Next they'll be screaming at the rain.
Fortunately, the voters were sensible, and now there is a sensible majority on the Pinellas County Board and they have reversed the utterly dumb decision to remove fluoride from drinking water.
It's called science, folks, and science trumps hysteria and ignorance any day of the week.

What planet are you from? If you do any research at all, you will realize that fluoride in the drinking water is mass medication without our consent! Ever heard of the NWO or the dumbing down of America? Talk about ignorance! You're at the top of the list!

The dumbing down of America? What's that? And Linda, stop getting all excited, calling people names, and using exclamation points. All of those things draw attention to your own ignorance and detract from your argument, such as it is. Not only that, but you sound paranoid.

Cheryl, I don't believe I need to check with you before posting something. If you don't know what the dumbing down of America is then you have a long way to go and a lot of research to do, but maybe you should just keep your head in the sand. And as for your comment about the doctors above, Dr. Bill Osmunson (who is against fluoride) is a dentist and you can check him out here: http://smilesofbellevue.com/dentist_bellevue_wa.html

Someone above cited "Dr Joseph Mercola" as an authority opposing fluoridation of water. Wiki has some interesting info:
"Mercola has been the subject of criticism from the business, medical and scientific communities. A 2006 BusinessWeek editorial criticized Mercola's marketing practices as "relying on slick promotion, clever use of information, and scare tactics."[3] In 2005, 2006, and 2011 the U.S. Food and Drug Administration warned Mercola and his company to stop making illegal claims regarding his products' ability to detect, prevent and treat disease.[4]"
Wiki also cites some of his other lame brained ideas:
"Mercola has questioned whether HIV is the cause of AIDS. He has argued instead that the manifestations of AIDS (including opportunistic infections and death) may be the result of "psychological stress" brought on by the belief that HIV is harmful.[28] Mercola.com has featured positive presentations of the claims of AIDS denialists, a fringe group which denies the existence of AIDS and/or the role of HIV in causing it.[28][29]
The scientific community considers the evidence that HIV causes AIDS to be conclusive[30][31] and rejects AIDS-denialist claims as pseudoscience based on conspiracy theories,[32] faulty reasoning, cherry picking, and misrepresentation of mainly outdated scientific data.[30][31][33]"

For Ms Mitchell, you cited one dentist as your source for opposition to fluoride, but even if you cited ten or twenty dentists among the entire nation, it means nothing in the face of more authoritative and respected professional scientific organizations, such as the American Dental Society, whose position states:
"The American Dental Association has endorsed fluoridation of community water supplies as safe and effective for preventing tooth decay for more than 40 years. Fluoride is nature's cavity fighter, occurring naturally in the earth's crust, in combination with other minerals in rocks and soil. Small amounts of fluoride occur naturally in all water sources, and varying amounts of the mineral are found in all foods and beverages. Water fluoridation is the process of adjusting the natural level of fluoride to a concentration sufficient to protect against tooth decay, a range of from 0.7 parts per million to 1.2 ppm.
"Water fluoridation has been recognized by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as one of the 10 great public health achievements of the 20th Century," said ADA President Richard F. Mascola, D.D.S. "Fluoride's benefits are particularly important for those Americans, especially children, who lack adequate access to dental care. It is safe, effective and by far the best bang for the nation's public health buck."
Anyone can read the entire statement at: http://www.ada.org/2109.aspx

Perhaps all you naysayers would benefit from researching on the following site: http://www.fluoridedebate.com/
From the website: "Fluoride is not just "one of forty chemicals used to treat water". It is the only chemical added to public drinking water to treat individuals, rather than the water. It is mass medication. This website explains why a good number of leading scientists, doctors, and some dentists are avidly opposed to putting fluoride in our water supply. It also shows that this controversy has existed in the scientific field from the onset."

Ms Mitchell, you are extrapolating from a few selected extremist individuals and acting as if they represent the objective scientific community.
Nothing could be further from the truth. They are like snake oil salesmen, and others who prey upon the fears of ordinary people, and end up hurting those who mistakenly listen to them.
That you don't like fluoridation is evident, so the solution is simple for you.
But your attempt, and that of other eco-extremists, to deny the protective benefits of this long-established and scientifically proven process, does not stand scrutiny and it will not stand. Period.
Punto final.
Those who would like scientific and objective information, in addition to the American Dental Association, can also go to the National Cancer Institute, whose Key Points are as follows:
1. Fluoride in water helps to prevent and can even reverse tooth decay.
2. More than 60 percent of the U.S. population has access to fluoridated water through public water supply systems.
3.The optimal level of fluoride to prevent tooth decay is 0.7 milligrams per liter of water.
4. Many studies, in both humans and animals, have shown no association between fluoridated water and cancer risk.

Unless they are adding flouride to bottled water these days, this topic is invalid. I don't, and never will, drink water straight from the tap. If you don't want to ingest flouride, then it would seem that the simple solution is to stop drinking water from the tap.

For Ms. Mitchell, yes, I do get the flu vaccine every year, just as every major medical organization and the CDC and NIH recommends. I have been free of the flu for decades.
I am unable to get the Shingles vaccine due to a preexisting medical condition that would conflict, but would choose to get it (i/a/w overwhelming evidence and recommendations) if that medical conflict did not exist.
I also get tetanus vaccinations, in accordance with the duration recommendations, and when I was in the military I got all of the required vaccines for the theatre of operations of our forces.
People like Wakefield and many other vaccine-deniers have been consistently debunked and unmasked for their fraudulent claims, but obviously some people are going to be suckered in by them.
When that happens, people get sick from cross-contamination that could have been prevented.
