I am guessing that the emergency crew may have wanted to be safe, in case the child may have had neck or back injuries that would require an xray to diagnose, but that is just a guess, obviously I'm no doctor! When I first moved here years ago, I got the impression that bayflite airlifted a lot of patients from traffic accidents. Where I am from, the traffic is very bad, but airlifts are only done in extremely life-threatening situations. I think that is because we had "Medic One" trucks and crews on the ground.

You're right, Sunde - the purpose really was to save lives that would be lost if there was delay. But here, the child apparently was conscious - mom heard her cry. Morton Plant Mease is pretty close and they have an xray machine. All ambulances have backboard. But you're also right about they were probably being cautious. Of course, the cynical side in me says they've got a helicopter worth many millions of dollars to pay for plus a pretty good sized crew and facility. However - I'm sure they all are honest and would not simply run up a fee to make the payments.

Let alone the possibility of neglect charges.
