Palm Harbor voters picked a new Fire Commissioner in Tuesday's General Election. Debbie Buschman, 43, a Fiscal Assistant for the Pinellas-Pasco Public Defender's Office and mother of four, beat incumbent Bob Shatanoff by 247 votes.

Here's a look at the vote tally for each candidate in the race for Palm Harbor Special Fire Control & Rescue District, Seat 3

  • Debbie Buschman: 50.47 percent of the vote with 13,262 votes
  • Bob Shatanoff: 49.53 percent of the vote, with 13015 votes

It does not appear as though a recount will be necessary according to this information on the Pinellas County Supervisor of Elections website.

Florida law requires a machine recount when the margin between candidates or ballot questions is less than ½ percent in unofficial results. A manual recount is automatically required when the margin between candidates or ballot questions is less than ¼ percent in unofficial results. Talk about diminishing tax base. Inform Debra that the tax paying citizens of Palm Harbor would like her to pay her property taxes. She's been overdue since 2009, thank you Pinellas County public records. I'm embarrassed to have such hypocrisy represent me.

Tucker, I am sorry that you feel this way. I would like to have the opportunity to tell you why this is so. My husband lost his job and was out of work for almost 2 years. Unable to remain solvent during that time we had to file for Chapter 13 relief. Our repayment plan includes those taxes, which we are paying monthly. This was a difficult time for our family as many other Floridians and Americans have also experienced during those rough economic times. Fortunately, we were able to keep our home because our bank offered us a loan re-modification. During that time period my husband was unable to find gainful employment so he went back to school to get his Masters degree and I also went back to school to get my degree. We are doing our best so that this will never happen again. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
