With the new year in full swing, here's a list of places in Palm Harbor that will allow you to stick to your promise to get healthy.

Everyone has a New Year's resolution, or five, and at the top of many lists is the promise to get healthy.

Here are five local ways to keep your promise to exercise more in 2012. Motivation not included.

1. Fitness clubs. There's no shortage of fitness clubs in the greater Palm Harbor area if you're looking for a more traditional type of workout. , , and  are a few of the options in this department, and all are very effective at helping to shed those excess holiday pounds.

2. Martial arts. Like fitness clubs, martial arts centers are great places to get fit, and there are also plenty of them in Palm Harbor. , ,  and Victory Martial Arts are just a few of the options in the area, and they all offer classes in various disciplines for many age groups and skill levels. Get fit by kicking butt? Sounds like fun!

3. . This is a great choice if you want to skip the traditional workouts and go straight to the new wave of getting and staying fit. Wildside offers a , from cycling to "booty" camps, with most of them centered on the upright pole. Lose weight and get in shape while having fun and making new friends in a relaxed, female-only environment; what more could you ask for in a fitness club?

4.  Sometimes you need to go off the beaten path to look for exercise options. And there's nothing more off the path than being on the water. while getting an excellent low-impact core workout at this Palm Harbor paddleboard shop. They have boards and equipment for sale and also organize weekly group events that let you enjoy the natural surroundings while you exercise muscles you didn't know you had.

5. All-In-One. may fall under the fitness club category, but this U.S. 19 supercenter is like the Swiss Army knife of exercise emporiums. Every type of workout you can think of is included at LA Fitness, including yoga, cycling, swimming, Zumba, Pilates, boxing, step aerobics, racquetball, basketball and personal training. If you can't get in shape at this place, you might as well wait until next year.
