Ever considered raising chickens in your backyard or growing your own food?
A new urban farming conference will share everything from backyard farming to raising crops for local markets.
The one-day event is Saturday, Feb. 9 from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Pinellas County Extension at 12520 Ulmerton Rd, Largo, according to a media release.
The cost is $7.50 for the morning or afternoon session, $12 for the full day. Register by phone at (727) 582-2100, option 2 or online. Space is limited.
The morning session covers: backyard chickens, hydro-phonic vegetable gardens and cost-saving pest control. The afternoon session focuses on commercial urban farming with business plans, agricultural practices, marketing and industry regulations, according to a media release.
Backyard chickens are allowed in Largo, Dunedin, Gulfport, St. Petersburg, Belleair and unincorporated Pinellas. Check with your community for specific details.
