McDonald's Demolition Underway

Crews will completely raze the restaurant and build a brand new one from the ground up.

The familiar golden arches that have towered over U.S. 19 for so many years are coming down, along with the rest of the restaurant that's located just north of Nebraska.

Demolition of the restaurant began last Thursday.

"The first day, I thought people were going to cry," said John Mason, Superintendent at Venture Construction, the company that's in charge of the project.

Mason says that all week people have been arriving at the restaurant expecting to eat, but then discover it's being torn down.

It appears as though they won't be able to eat there anytime soon. The new restaurant is not scheduled to open until Nov. 1.

The restaurant is getting an extreme makeover of sorts, but McDonald's style. The entire restaurant will be torn down all the way to the ground. Crews will then build a brand new one from scratch. Mason says the new restaurant will be more contemporary, featuring the newest McDonald's design. It will also be about the same size.

Until the new restaurant opens on Nov. 1, customers will have to visit other McDonald's restaurants nearby.
