Joanne and Larry Davidson have made eating organic food a way of life for decades. Now, this Palm Harbor couple is sharing their love for organic food at a coffee shop and bakery they recently opened on U.S. 19.

"I've been doing organic for 32 years now, since my son was born. We started out after I had him. I was very sick, and someone gave me a book on organic eating and I just went for it and it made me feel better, so I raised my children on it," said Joanne.

The Organic Life Coffeehouse and Bakery features homemade breakfasts and lunches using as many organic ingredients as possible.

Some of the breakfast items you'll find on the menu include Josh's Mufflette ($3.75), which is an organic muffin stuffed with scrambled egg, spinach, tomato, feta cheese and topped with crispy cheddar cheese; egg and cheese wraps starting at $4; organic whole wheat pancakes for $5.50; and organic oatmeal for $5.

The restaurant business is nothing new for the Davidson family. The couple's son, Peter, is part-owner of a coffeehouse with the same name in Lutz that opened about two-and-a-half years ago.

Joanne had been traveling to Lutz to bake the organic breads, wraps, muffins, cookies and cakes for the coffeehouse, when she and her husband decided to open a similar coffeehouse in Palm Harbor. Now, her daughter-in-law, Shadia does the baking at the Lutz location.

"We just decided that it was doing well up there, we wanted to open up a second store here," said Joanne.

The couple also serves lunch at the coffeehouse. Menu items start at $5 for a B.L.T. or a grilled cheese and tomato sandwich and go on up to $8 for a turkey and cheese panini or roast beef melt.

Organic Life Coffeehouse serves Java Planet-brand coffee and is planning on roasting its own blend of coffee in the near future. The coffee shop also hosts live entertainment and open mic nights. Check out their website for more details.

Would the hedgehogs, bearded lizards and mice recently seized in Largo and being put up for adoption qualify for an organic menu? Better check out the adoption applicants carefully...times are tough! LOL
