Palm Harbor University High Student Wins Young Heroes Award

PHUH freshman Michelle Yongue is a vision student who helps younger visually-impaired students by volunteering at elementary schools and summer vision camps.

 

Palm Harbor University High (PHUH) freshman Michelle Yongue is one of three students in the Pinellas County School system honored with a Young Heroes award for their efforts during the fall semester. Each of the students received a $500 savings bond (watch the video).

The award is given to students in grades K-12 who "give tirelessly of themselves through community service or who have inspired others through their deeds and strength of character," according to the school district's website.

Yongue is a vision student who helps younger visually-impaired students by volunteering at elementary schools and summer vision camps. She also tutors students with braille and serves as a mentor for visually-impaired students.
