Patch Story Leads to Arrest of Bank Robbery Suspect

A resident recognized a photo of the suspect that appeared in a Palm Harbor Patch story and called deputies, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities have arrested a man who they say robbed a Palm Harbor bank earlier this week, and they have a Patch reader to thank.

Detectives received a call Friday from a resident who said they saw a photo of the suspect on Palm Harbor Patch and thought they recognized him.

The suspect, identified as 29-year-old Cody Waugh of Palm Harbor, admitted to robbing the Bank of America, 4000 Lake St. George Dr., in an interview with detectives. Waugh told them he "used some of the stolen money to catch up on his rent, pay for furniture rental, and to purchase personal items for himself and his wife," according to a media release from the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.

Waugh is charged with strong arm robbery and was released from Pinellas County Jail on Friday after posting $10,000 bond, according to online records.

The investigation continues.

Congrats to the Patch staff..... but I sort of always figured it was going to be those two chicks eating popcorn while watching the CrimeStoppers commercial that would recognize him.

People do desperate things in desperate time. Very unfortunate for this family. It's not like he went out a bought crack.

You think I don't think about that poor woman every second of everyday! Myself and my children were cleared of any wrong doing and any knowledge of the crime. My children are very young and all I ask is that people respect them, you may think whatever you want of my husband and I but, for the sake of my little girls, as one human to another I beg of everyone to not bash him anymore. Thank you all and God bless.

I am NOT defending my husbands actions in ANY way! All I am asking is people do not bash him for my children to see. Say whatever you want about him, just not on here where one day my children will read it. They have been through enough already by his actions that day.

Your husband did not seem to worry or even care about your children at all on that day and yet you expect the public to not think of him as an animal,as if he did nothing wrong?.He went into a bank ,robbed an innocent teller and most likely scared her half to death while she stood there wondering if he would kill her.She got up that morning and went to work to support her family and "your" husband thinks he had the right to walk in there and demand money because he has no job? What is this world coming to that low lives think they can rob anyone they want.We all want our rent paid, you don't see us holding up banks.I know he will carry this on his back for the rest of his life and maybe now,he can think back,if he even has a brain and wonder if it was all worth it. His mug shot should be posted all through the town to show people just what a guy he was.
