Valentine's Bake Off is Saturday

Do you make a mean cupcake, sinful cookies, or brownies to die for? The Old Town Cafe is hosting a Valentine's Bake Off to find the best bakers!

If you've always wanted to enter a baking competition, here's your chance. The Old Town Cafe is hosting a Valentine's Bake Off on Saturday, Feb. 11.  owner, Louise Goetz says the bake off is a good way to bring the community together.

"We have a lot of people who do this as a passion, it's a hobby. This is a good way for them to get known in the area."

Goetz says anyone can enter, regardless of age or experience level.

"We are looking to get some of our pastry chefs and amateurs, all in the same place with a theme."

So far, there are two age categories: Youth and Adult. Depending on the number of entries, a third Senior Citizens category might also be created. 

Goetz will be one of the judges. She's invited several guest judges to participate including; Peggy O'Neill's owner Eric Webber, Pinellas County Commissioner Susan Latvala, Old Main Street President Bill Gallant and St. Petersburg College Professor Lance Orr.

Goetz says entries will be judged on creativity, taste, originality and structure.

"I'm interested in seeing how creative people can get. We're very excited," says Goetz.

Bakers will be vying for cash prizes, gift certificates from local businesses,  aprons, baskets and other fun stuff. The event is family friendly and will feature a DJ, snacks and other activities.  

Planning on entering? Here's what you need to know-

  • The entry fee is $10.
  • Complete the entry form (you can print the entry form by clicking on the "Photos, Videos & PDFS" in this article, then click on the pdf and print it) 
  • All entries must have a Valentine's Day Theme.
  • All contestants must bring one dozen servings of their baked item. 
  • Contestants should bring their baked good by 2:30 p.m.
  • Judging is from 3 to 5 p.m.
