The Suncoast Primate Sanctuary is a non-profit 501(c)(3) volunteer-run organization that is home to over 70 animals including chimpanzees, orangutans, monkeys, reptiles, tropical birds, and more!
My name is Cheetah-Mike! Most people may remember me from the 1932-1934 Tarzan movie with Johnny Weissmuller. That’s right, I’m "Cheetah The Chimp" and I reside at the Suncoast Primate Sanctuary located in Palm Harbor, FL.
The Sanctuary is home to a collection of stars including Buddy, the Spot-Nosed Guenon, from the 1996 TV series “Second Noah” filmed in Tampa Bay; and Pongo, the Orangutan, who was used in a Mazda Commercial. But enough about them, this is MY blog.
I’m sure you can imagine the types of questions I must get asked as my fans stroll amongst the residents at the Sanctuary. I am now in my 80’s, which is extremely old for chimpanzees. The average chimpanzee will live to be in their 20’s in the wild and 40’s-50’s in captivity. Every human year equals one and a quarter chimp years.
I am one of the four great apes – can you guess what the four great apes are? chimpanzees, like myself, orangutans, gorillas, and gibbons.
