Epiphany Has Special Meaning for Spectators

30,000 people attended the 2013 Epiphany celebration in Tarpon Springs. For some of the families who attended Sunday's festivities, the celebration has become a family tradition and holds a special place in their hearts.

Eleni and Phillip Mangos live in Orlando but grew up in Tarpon Springs. They were both baptized at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Tarpon Springs. They also married at the cathedral and their twin 4-year-old sons, Saki and Skevo were baptized there. 

"We pretty much grew up here," said Phillip outside the cathedral Sunday morning.

The family traveled from Orlando to Tarpon Springs for Epiphany. Saki and Skevo dressed up for the occasion in matching bow ties, hats and vests and looked adorable as their parents pulled them around in a wagon.

Epiphany is a big deal for another youngster who lives in another part of the country. 4-year-old Niko Savas lives in Detroit and has attended Epiphany in Tarpon Springs every year since his first birthday. For Niko, Epiphany has a special meaning, his birthday is January 6.

He attended Epiphany Sunday with his mother Vicky Savas and his uncle Ernie Savas.

"It's inspiring when they let the dove go. It gives me goosebumps," said Vicky, adding, "God is smiling on us."
