Dogtoberfest Offers Lots of Tail-Wagging Fun

Dogs and their people will take over Dunedin's Highlander Park Saturday, Nov. 10 for the annual Dogtoberfest sponsored by Palm Harbor's Suncoast Animal League.

Dogtoberfest features lots of dog-themed activities including the My Pet's Got Talent contest, which Palm Harbor Patch Editor Sunde Farquhar will help judge.

Here's a lineup of the events-

11a.m to 4 p.m.- Super Pet Adopt-a-Thon Thinking of adopting a dog? There will be plenty of pooches to choose from. 50 rescue groups are expected to participate and plant to bring more than 250 adoptable dogs and a few cats, too! Read more about the Super Pet Adopt-a-Thon

11a.m to 4 p.m.- Photos With Santa Bring your dog and kids to have their photos taken with Santa Claus. How great is that?  Have fun all day, get your photos with Santa taken and have your Christmas card photo done early this year. 

11a.m to 7 p.m.- Suncoast Animal League Alumni Reunion Did your pooch come in on one of the Georgia rescues? Pilots N Paws? The Pasco rescue?  From a puppy mill rescue? Tarpon Springs Waste Yard? Tornado Rescue Dogs?  The Sarasota rescue?  Hillsborough County?  Wimauma? Roo (aka Ruby) & her crew? Or some other rescue? Any dog adopted from Suncoast is invited to the reunion.

If you plan on attending the reunion, send an email to suncoast.reunion@gmail.com. Please include your name, dog's name, address, phone number & where your dog came from, if you know. Please bring a picture of your alumni (DOGS and CATS!) with you, the Suncoast Animal League will have a board to put everyone's picture on. 

11:15 a.m.- Blessing of the Animals 

12:00 p.m.-Doggie Project Runway (Doggie Costume Contest) Pull out those Halloween costumes and enter them in the costume contest.  Choose your costume and choose your theme, have fun with it.  PetSmart gift cards for winners: 1st Place: $75, 2nd Place: $50, 3rd Place: $25

1:15 p.m.- Calendar Contest Winners

1:30 p.m.- Crowning of the King & Queen of Dogtoberfest

2:15 p.m.- My Pet's Got Talent (pet talent contest) Are you always telling your friends how smart and talented your pooch is?  Now is the time to show us what he's got. PetSmart gift cards for winners: 1st Place: $75, 2nd Place: $50, 3rd Place: $25

3 p.m.- Running of the Wieners Enter your Dachshund in this hilarious running race. The dogs enjoy themselves and the owners can sometimes come up with very inventive ways to entice their little hot dogs to run to the finish line. This event is always a crowd-pleaser. PetSmart gift cards for 3 fastest wieners: 1st Place: $75, 2nd Place: $50, 3rd Place: $25

4 to 7 p.m.- Live music from Ted Wray
