Do you have a loved one who suffers from a cognitive disorder like Alzheimer's, autism, Down Syndrome or a brain injury?
Representatives from the National Silver Alert Program will be at the Palm Harbor Fountains Fest celebration on Veterans Day to register people for the program for free.
The National Silver Alert Program allows caregivers to store vital personal, medical, health and caregiver information online for access if there is an emergency. The information is encrypted and is only shared with emergency responders and medical facilities. The National Silver Alert Program has a 24-hour, toll-free emergency phone number.
“Wandering is the major reason for missing person alerts, particularly in persons with cognitive disorders. Having this information available to law enforcement officers, hospitals and emergency responders minimizes the time in which a person is missing and reduces the potential health risks," said Neil Arfmann, CEO of National Silver Alert.
The National Silver Alert Program also sells bracelets, necklaces and other items that people who suffer from cognitive disorders can wear to let others know they are enrolled in the program.
The bracelets and pendants are engraved with the Silver Alert toll-free, emergency phone number and a serial number that allows emergency responders to contact the National Silver Alert call center and retrieve information about the person.
The Fountains Fest celebration will be held on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Fountains Plaza, which is located on the west side of U.S. 19 between Alderman and Nebraska roads.
32 businesses are participating in the event, which will include a food court, live band, acrobatics, and an interactive scavenger hunt with prizes. Local animal groups will also be there and Tampa Bay's Hot 101.5 will be broadcasting live from the event.
A flag ceremony will be held at 4 p.m. People are also invited to bring any torn or old flags they might have. The flags will be collected for proper disposal.
