Head to Fred Howard Park Wednesday and you could catch a glimpse of a movie star…. or not.
The movie stars Matthew McConaughey as a former stripper who owns a strip club where an experienced stripper played by Channing Tatum works. In the movie, Tatum's character takes newbie stripper Alex Pettyfer under his wing.
A party scene was filmed on a sand bar off Fred Howard Park Tuesday with the crew returning Wednesday. Once word got out about the shoot on Tuesday, fans showed up at the park.
Judy Fix and her teenage daughter brought their camera with the hope of snapping a photo of the stars. "My daughter called me up and said, did you hear what was going on?" I said, "Meet me there!"
As of late Tuesday afternoon, the pair had not gotten a photo of Matthew McConaughey, but hope was not lost. "I might skip school tomorrow," said Stephanie.
Closer to the beach, a family of 18 had set up lawn chairs with a strategic view of the sand bar off in the distance. The family -who is from Tarpon Springs- ranged in age from seven months-old to 65.
Mother Olga Angeliadis brought her kids Tuesday and we determined to snap a photo of a star. "I'll be back tomorrow, drop 'em off at school and have coffee on the beach," she said.
If star gazing is your thing, there is another opportunity this week. The crew is scheduled to film at the Pinellas Bayway Bridge in St. Petersburg on Friday.
