Palm Harbor Muvico Gets Extreme Makeover

If going to a movie on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day is part of your family's holiday tradition, you'll be in for a surprise when you arrive at Palm Harbor's .

The theater recently underwent an extreme makeover. The changes are the first major renovations for the theater since it opened 16 years ago.

Probably the hottest new feature is the addition of 19 D-Box MFX seats, which allow movie-goers to experience motion effects while watching movies.

Muvico Operations Manager, Allison Jackson says people like the D-Box seats. "They're different, almost like a little mini-roller coaster ride, so if you're really into that, you'll really enjoy it," she said. 

Demo D-Box seats have been installed in the lobby, so customers can try out the D-Box motion experience for free.

Customers are also now able to go online, buy their tickets and reserve specific D-Box seats, which Jackson recommends, "On a busy night, D-Box seats sell fast, she said.

Some movies will also be available for customers to view in 3-D, while sitting in a D-Box seat; combing visual and motion effects.

Other changes at Muvico include new movie screens and new digital projectors in each individual theater. The new Sony projectors have a new feature; they can rewind movies if there is a power outage, so customers don't miss any part of the flick.

"No more problems with film, no breaking, no bad splices, it's all crisp clean digital, brand new sound, I think that's the one thing people are really going to take away from the experience, they pay for a movie and they're going to see the whole thing without any distractions," said Jackson.

New seats have also been installed in all of the theaters. They feature an easy care vinyl that allows spills to quickly be cleaned, eliminating that musty smell that some theaters can get after stuff is repeatedly spilled onto fabric seats.

The lobby also has a new look, it's been transformed into a comfy lounge area complete with sofa chairs, and cafe tables and chairs. There are also a few other extras you might notice; the lobby and bathrooms now have big screen TVs. Sports programming plays on the TV in the men's bathroom and movies play on the TV in the women's room. The concession stand sells wine, beer, the usual movie treats, and deep fried foods including deep fried mac n' cheese.

Movies that will be playing at Muvico on Christmas Day include War Horse, Mission Impossible 4, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Adventures of Tin Tin and Sherlock Holmes, which is also available in D-box.
