A Black & white Verdict

Most of us agree that the verdict in the Zimmerman trial was black versus an assumed white...although Zimmerman was Hispanic. What many of those who were, and still are, emotionally involved in the trial and its aftermath may not realize that the trial was also made a political issue beginning with the remarks by the most powerful man in the nation when he stated to the world that little Trayvon could have been his son. Now we learn that the president has given approval to the Justice Department to look into filing a civil rights case against Zimmerman. It makes one think hard about Obama's motivation and agenda just after his much-publicized response to the verdict, "We are a nation of laws, and a jury has spoken. I now ask every American to respect the call for calm reflection from two parents who lost their young son." Obama's Justice Department already facing serious allegations of wrong-doing, appears to be attempting to stir up the divisive hatred this case has generated throughout the country. Perhaps, the DOJ hopes to deflect a little heat from its current problems, one of which resulted in the murder of a border agent, by shining a light on race relations concerning a verdict that has both overtones of race and politics.
