Man Accused of Kicking Pregnant Housemate in Stomach

Pinellas County Sheriff's Deputies say Howard J Getz, 57, threw a pregnant female on the ground, pulled her hair and punched and kicked her in the stomach.

A Palm Harbor man faces a felony aggravated battery charge in connection with a disturbing attack against a pregnant housemate.

Pinellas County Sheriff's Deputies say Howard J Getz, 57, threw a pregnant female on the ground, pulled her hair and punched and kicked her in the stomach. The incident happened around 12:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 4, according to an arrest affidavit.

Deputies say Getz lives in the same home as the victim. Her age was not included in the affidavit. The victim refused medical treatment.

The arrest affidavit describes Getz as disabled. It also says he may have been having some mental health issues at the time of the alleged attack and may have been under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

Getz is in the Pinellas County Jail. His bond is set at $50,000.

Why is she a "pregnant female" instead of a "pregnant woman?" "female" is generic and includes alligators, hamsters and skunks. Woman is human.

Hi Howard,
Thanks for stopping by. She was referred to as a pregnant female because her age was not listed on the arrest affidavit and she could have been a woman or perhaps even a juvenile. Journalists do not "guess" at things like that, we report the facts ;)

Thanks Sunde. I thought it was simply the same as police always report it - sterile but, in their minds, "official" sounding. However, given that "[t]he victim refused medical treatment," I certainly hope she isn't a juvenile If she's that young and pregnant I'd hope the police or someone kept her for a little while if only to be certain she's ok. I'd hope also that they'd check on the propriety of a young, pregnant girl living in those circumstances.
But I don't mean to fault your reporting - I'm very impressed with you filing "breaking news" reports at late and early hours as well as the more mundane so I can read the local goings-on with my first cup of coffee.

You are welcome, Howard!
I wish there was a bit more info on the arrest affidavit. I most certainly would have added it in! I agree with you. I hope that someone is watching out for the pregnant housemate. Thank you so much for the kind words about my reporting. You made my day :)

I know nothing about fluoride, but I know this: I grew up in Baton Rouge, LA, where, as far as IRead More know, the water supply contained fluoride. I am now 58 and have only had five cavities at this point and very 'healthy' teeth according to my dentist. I have no idea if fluoride was a factor and I know of no side effects I suffered from it.

Philip: Your story is a common one for those that have grown up in fluoridated areas of the US.Read More Mine is just the opposite. I have over 2/3rds of my mouth covered in crowns, root canals, and fillings from growing up without fluoridated water, and poor oral hygiene. Adults now are keeping their teeth into late life because of the last 68 years of fluoridation in the US. It was very common for folks to soak their teeth in a glass of water overnight before fluoridation began. Now, dentures are in a minority of our adult population. And thank God for that. Those of us in this age group have better nutrition, health, and self confidence because of retention of our natural teeth. Thanks for your positive story Philip :) Johnny Johnson, Jr., DMD, MS Pediatric Dentist, Palm Harbor, FL

Have you read The Flouride Deception by Christopher Bryson? Also, why do toothpaste warning labelsRead More exist? The ones that say if your child swallows more than a pea-sized amount you should call Poison control? Lets see, if I advise my child to drink 8 glasses a day, how much Flouride are they getting? Lets take it out of the water supply like much of the rest of the world is doing. That way, those that want it can take Flouride pills or pay you for topical treatments. Telling us to buy a filter or bottled water is unfair besides the fact that plastic bottles are bad for the environment.
