Palm Harbor Woman Critically Injured in Crash After Suffering Medical Episode

A Palm Harbor woman is in critical condition after she drove her Ford Mustang on a sidewalk and collided with a guardrail early Saturday morning.

A 45-year-old woman is in critical condition after she drove her car on the sidewalk at the intersection of Tampa Road and Strathmore Gale East Drive in Palm Harbor and collided with a guardrail early Saturday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

According to the report, Mary Margaret Dion, of Palm Harbor, was traveling westbound in the outside lane on Tampa Road, approaching the intersection around 5:25 a.m., when she suffered a medical episode and lost control of her 2008 Ford Mustang. The vehicle veered onto the sidewalk, striking a pedestrian guardrail before finally coming to a stop, the report states.

Dion was transported to Mease Countryside Hospital, in Safety Harbor, for her injuries and was considered in critical condition Saturday. It is unknown whether her condition was a result of the medical episode or the crash, although the FHP estimated there was $6,000 worth of damage as a result of the crash. Dion faces no charges.
