VIDEO: PHUH Vocal Group Wins Regional Contest, Headed to NYC for Finals

The 24 students call themselves the "After School Specials". They beat seven other groups from Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee and Mississippi during the southeastern regional semi-finals held Feb. 16 in Orlando.

A group of talented Palm Harbor University High (PHUH) students will be traveling to New York City in April to compete as finalists in International Championships of High School A Cappella (ICHSA).

The 24 students call themselves the "After School Specials" (watch the video above). They beat seven other groups from Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee and Mississippi during the southeastern regional semi-finals held Feb. 16 in Orlando.

The teens are now on a mission to raise money to pay for their upcoming trip to New York City where the finals will be held at the Lincoln Center for Performing Arts on April 19. The students will compete for cash prizes and the title of Grand Champion.

The "After School Specials" will hold a concert and silent auction in March to raise money for the trip. They must raise $20,000 to finance the trip, according to Director Justin Havard.

The fundraiser will be held at 7 p.m. on March 8 at the PHUHS theater, 1900 Omaha Street.

Concert tickets are $10 and include complimentary desserts and coffee.
