Transformer Fire Knocks Out Power at Palm Harbor Univ. High

"We have no power at the school," PHUH Principal Christen Tonry told Palm Harbor Patch on Monday afternoon.

A transformer that caught fire on the Palm Harbor University High campus over the weekend wound up leaving the campus in the dark.

"We have no power at the school," PHUH Principal Christen Tonry told Palm Harbor Patch on Monday afternoon.

Tonry says the fire was thought to be electrical in nature and happened Saturday evening or Sunday morning. No injuries were reported.

The transformer that caught fire was located near the driver's ed building. Crews removed the transformer Sunday.

The outage will cause a small change to a back-to-school event on Tuesday, according to Tonry. Juniors are scheduled to pick up their student parking passes in the cafeteria from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Instead, students will pick up their parking passes outside the cafeteria, because the building is closed.

Tonry says crews are working to restore power with the goal of having it back on Wednesday. 9th graders and their parents are scheduled to attend an orientation at the school from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Thursday. We will be sure to let you know if there are any changes to the scheduled orientation.

Palm Harbor University High is located at 1900 Omaha St.
