An informal memorial for "Capt. Dean" Parks was held Friday, Jan. 11 at Marino's Marina in Palm Harbor. Parks recently passed away unexpectedly. Details about his passing have not been released. Parks was a Crystal Beach resident who owned Absolute Angling Adventures Fishing Guides, a charter fishing business which operated out of Marino's Marina. He also taught fishing camps for children. Marino's Marina owner Tony Marino had known Parks for at least 10 years and described him as a giving and caring person. "Dean would do anything for anyone. He will be missed greatly," said Marino. A funeral service for Lola Perez will be held Sept. 29. A fundraiser for her medical expenses will be held Oct. 13 at Peggy O'Neill's restaurant in Palm Harbor.
Lola Lee Perez, age 2, passed away Sept. 11. She was diagnosed with Alpers Syndrome in March after suffering a seizure. Alpers Syndrome is a degenerative disease of the central nervous system with no cure. "She was a beautiful and loving little girl and will be deeply missed. Lola is survived by her parents, Valorie and Benny Perez Jr. and her adoring big brother, Benny. We love you our little angel," her family wrote in her obituary on Curlew Hills Memory Gardens' website. Norbert Swierz, 92, of Palm Harbor was a war hero whose planes were shot down twice. He escaped from a P.O.W. camp and was honored with multiple medals. Sadly, he died before recently-discovered war letters from his mother could be given to him.
Norbert Swierz, 92, a humble World War II hero from Palm Harbor who escaped from a P.O.W. camp three times and was recognized with the French Legion of Honor, will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery, according to a family member. Swierz died suddenly on Saturday, July 21 a few days after undergoing hip surgery, according to his son-in-law, Richard Ray. Private services were held for Swierz on Thursday at the Highland Lakes Subdivision in Palm Harbor where he lived with his wife Muriel, 91. Ray says Swierz will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery in December. A date has not yet been set, as many family members who would like to attend are currently deployed in the military. Legendary boxing trainer Angelo Dundee's funeral is scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday at Countryside Christian Center, 1850 N McMullen Booth Road. Visitation is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dundee, who died at age 90 Feb. 1, trained boxing great Muhammad Ali and Sugar Ray Leonard. Dundee led an active life despite his age.
