An informal memorial was held Friday night for Crystal Beach resident "Capt. Dean" Parks, who operated a charter fishing business in Palm Harbor and taught fishing camps for kids at The Centre.
An informal memorial for "Capt. Dean" Parks was held Friday, Jan. 11 at Marino's Marina in Palm Harbor. Parks recently passed away unexpectedly. Details about his passing have not been released. Parks was a Crystal Beach resident who owned Absolute Angling Adventures Fishing Guides, a charter fishing business which operated out of Marino's Marina. He also taught fishing camps for children. Marino's Marina owner Tony Marino had known Parks for at least 10 years and described him as a giving and caring person. "Dean would do anything for anyone. He will be missed greatly," said Marino. Retired Gen. H. Norman Schwarzkopf, 78, passed away today in Tampa, according to media reports. Schwarzkopf was best known to the American people for his leadership in removing Saddam Hussein and his forces from Kuwait in 1991. Schwarzkopf had successfully led an international coalition of U.S. allies to drive out Iraqi troops. "Barbara and I mourn the loss of a true American patriot and one of the great military leaders of his generation," former President George H.W. Bush said in a written statement, according to ABC News. Schwarzkopf led what came to be known as Operation Desert Storm under President Bush. A funeral service for Lola Perez will be held Sept. 29. A fundraiser for her medical expenses will be held Oct. 13 at Peggy O'Neill's restaurant in Palm Harbor.
Lola Lee Perez, age 2, passed away Sept. 11. She was diagnosed with Alpers Syndrome in March after suffering a seizure. Alpers Syndrome is a degenerative disease of the central nervous system with no cure. "She was a beautiful and loving little girl and will be deeply missed. Lola is survived by her parents, Valorie and Benny Perez Jr. and her adoring big brother, Benny. We love you our little angel," her family wrote in her obituary on Curlew Hills Memory Gardens' website. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29 at Community United Methodist Church in Oldsmar, which is located at 207 E. Norbert Swierz, 92, of Palm Harbor was a war hero whose planes were shot down twice. He escaped from a P.O.W. camp and was honored with multiple medals. Sadly, he died before recently-discovered war letters from his mother could be given to him.
Norbert Swierz, 92, a humble World War II hero from Palm Harbor who escaped from a P.O.W. camp three times and was recognized with the French Legion of Honor, will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery, according to a family member. Swierz died suddenly on Saturday, July 21 a few days after undergoing hip surgery, according to his son-in-law, Richard Ray. Private services were held for Swierz on Thursday at the Highland Lakes Subdivision in Palm Harbor where he lived with his wife Muriel, 91. Ray says Swierz will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery in December. A date has not yet been set, as many family members who would like to attend are currently deployed in the military. Carol Barbara Windsor Swope, 56, of Palm Harbor, passed away June 22, 2012, at Mease Hospital Countryside following a several-year battle with non-alcoholic liver disease. She was born in Newark, NJ, and moved to Richmond, VA, in 1965. She was employed by the Bank of Virginia before moving to Florida in 1981. She had resided in Palm Harbor since 2000. Carol was a loving wife and mother, and a talented artist and crafter. She was predeceased by her parents, Carl W. Windsor, Jr., and Estelle C. Windsor. She is survived by her husband, Jim; son, Brandon; daughter, Ashleigh, all of Palm Harbor; brothers Bob (Gina) Windsor and Greg (Valerie Moss) Windsor; and stepmother Joyce Windsor, all of Richmond. The Palm Harbor residents died from injuries they suffered in a motorcycle crash last week.
Memorial services will be held this weekend for two Palm Harbor residents who died as a result of injuries they suffered in a motorcycle crash last week. Angelica Hall, 18 was killed in an motorcycle accident on May 17 in Clearwater. Her friend, Shay Lydon, 20, was driving the motorcycle. He died from his injuries Monday (previous coverage about accident). A service for Angelica Hall, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 26 at the Crossroads Baptist Church in Palm Harbor. Legendary boxing trainer Angelo Dundee's funeral is scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday at Countryside Christian Center, 1850 N McMullen Booth Road. Visitation is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dundee, who died at age 90 Feb. 1, trained boxing great Muhammad Ali and Sugar Ray Leonard. Dundee led an active life despite his age. Dundee had recently visited the International Boxing Hall of Fame in New York and National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame in Chicago. He also visited Muhammad Ali for Ali's 70th birthday according to the LA TImes blog.
