Two Palm Harbor Teens to Perform in Prestigious Scholarship Competition

Amanda Springer and Justin Ma are two of 25 Pinellas County high school students who will compete in the Walker's Rising Stars scholarship competition Monday evening at Ruth Eckerd Hall. This is the tenth year for the competition.

Two talented Palm Harbor University High students will be on center stage Monday night when they compete in the prestigious Walker's Rising Stars Scholarship Competition.  Amanda Springer and Justin Ma are two of 25 Pinellas County high school students who will compete in the competition, which is in its tenth year. Walker's Rising Stars provides college scholarships to juniors and seniors in Pinellas County public high schools. Solo performers compete in dance, drama, vocal music, instrumental music and visual arts categories. Groups of up to three students can also compete in the visual arts category. Students entered the scholarship contest by submitting an application and essay. Finalists were then selected and invited to perform and …

Palm Harbor Univ. High Students Honored in Statewide Contests

21 members of Palm Harbor University High's Future Business Leaders of America competed in the FBLA State Conference in Orlando on April 26-28.

Two Palm Harbor University High (PHUH) students earned top spots in recent statewide business competitions. 21 members of PHUH's Future Business Leaders of America competed in the FBLA State Conference in Orlando on April 26-28. Melissa Velletti won 1st place in the Business Communications competition. Ishan Mandani won 3rd place in Future Business Leader category, which is considered a prestigious category, according to PHUH-FBLA Advisor Kevin Schachter, who accompanied the teens to the conference. Mandani was also named Florida-FBLA District XII (Pinellas County) President. Competition categories included desktop publishing, accounting, business planning, word processing, presentations and impromptu speaking. Patch would like to …

Palm Harbor Univ. High Makes Newsweek’s Top 2,000 High Schools

The Palm Harbor school joined 113 other Florida campuses on the magazine’s 2013 list.

Palm Harbor University High (PHUH) parents and students have reason to be proud. Both of the high school made it on Newsweeks’ Top 2,000 list of the best high schools in the country. Schools selected for the honor are “those that have proven to be the most effective in turning out college-ready grads,” the magazine’s website says. Honorees are judged on such factors as graduation rate, college acceptance rate and test scores. PHUH was 407th on the list of 2,000. The top school in the state is the International Baccalaureate School at Bartow High. The No. 1 school in the nation, according to Newsweek, is in Bowling Green , Ky. Palm Harbor Lady Hurricanes Lose Regional Final

The Lady Hurricanes remained scoreless against Orlando's Timber Creek Wolves until the third inning of the regional playoffs Friday, when two players crossed home plate.

The Palm Harbor University High Lady Hurricanes softball team ended its 2013 season with a 12-to-3 loss to Orlando's Timber Creek Wolves during the class 8A finals Friday evening. Timber Creek scored three runs each in the first, second, sixth and seventh innings, for a final score of 12. The Lady Hurricanes remained scoreless until the third inning when two players crossed home plate. They did not score again until the final inning. "They beat us. We couldn't come back from the six to zero runs the first few innings," said Lady Hurricanes Head Coach Kerry Katchuk shortly after the game. High School Softball: Palm Harbor's Lady Hurricanes Advance to Regional Finals

Palm Harbor University High's Lady Hurricanes beat the defending state champion Durant High Cougars 1-0 in Tuesday evening's regional semi-finals.

Eight months of hard work, practice and determination paid off for Palm Harbor University High's Lady Hurricanes. The softball team beat Plant City's Durant High Cougars 1-0 in Tuesday evening's regional semi-finals. The win was extra sweet for the team, Durant beat the Lady Hurricanes almost one year ago today in the regional semi-finals.  "We started talking about beating Durant in September of last year," said Lady Hurricanes Head Coach Kerry Katchuk shortly after the game. "Durant knocked us out last year. They were the number one team in the state." The lone run came in the 6th inning when Jessica Adams had an RBI single. The Lady Hurricanes move on to play Orlando's Timber Creek at home on Friday in the Class 8A region finals. Watch …

21 members of PHUH's Future Business Leaders of America will compete in the FBLA State Conference this weekend.

Earlier this week, we told you about how Palm Harbor University High's vocal group the "After School Specials" competed in New York City. Now, another talented group of students from Palm Harbor University High (PHUH) are headed out of town for a competition. 21 members of PHUH's Future Business Leaders of America will compete in the FBLA State Conference in Orlando this weekend.  PHUH-FBLA Advisor Kevin Schachter will be accompanying the group. He has nothing but praise for his students. "They're very good. A majority are in the International Baccalaureate Program. All are very talented in their area," said Schachter. Palm Harbor Teen Vocal Group Performs in NYC

Palm Harbor University High's vocal group, the After School Specials competed in the "International Championships of High School A Cappella" which was held last Friday, April 19 in New York City.

Ever dream of performing in New York City? That dream recently became a reality for a group of talented Palm Harbor University High students. The school's vocal group, the "After School Specials," competed in the International Championships of High School A Cappella last Friday, April 19, in New York City. The group did not place in the competition, however student Angel Coleman tied with a student from another school for Outstanding Vocal Percussion, a technique in which a vocalist creates sounds with their mouth that is very similar to sounds created by a percussion instrument. PHUH Vocal Group Competes Friday Night in NYC

Palm Harbor University High's A Cappella group, the "After School Specials" won a spot in the finals during a competition last February. They'll compete in the International Championship Friday, April 19 in New York City.

Twenty-four talented Palm Harbor University High students will compete in New York City on Friday, April 19, for top honors in the International Championships of High School A Cappella.  The group calls themselves the "After School Specials". They won a spot in the finals during a competition last February (watch the accompanying video). Palm Harbor Wrestler Jared Prince Takes 3rd in National Competition

Palm Harbor University High's Jared Prince competed at the 120 lb. weight class and finished third in the Flonationals.

A Palm Harbor University High student turned in an impressive performance at the recent "Flonationals", one of the toughest post-season national championship events in high school folkstyle wrestling. This year’s tournament was held April 5-7 at Indiana University, PA. The tournament featured more than 60 nationally-ranked wrestlers and a large array of other state champs looking to make a name for themselves from over 35 states. Palm Harbor University High's Jared Prince competed at the 120 lb. weight class and finished third. Prince finished the tournament with six wins and one loss which was in the semi-finals 5-3 to Darian Cruz, a Pennsyvania senior ranked third in the country.
