Sandy Has a Punk-Rock Hairdo, Juliet is Playful and Affectionate,

Palm Harbor Patch is proud to help the Suncoast Animal League find a forever home for these great pets.

Juliet is a 6-month-old tuxedo kitten. She was brought to the Suncoast Animal League with a sibling, who was recently adopted. Their family moved and left the cats behind to fend for themselves. Juliet is a nice girl who is playful and affectionate. She's good with children and seems to get along fine with most other cats. We haven't tested her with dogs yet, but since she's young, she should be fine as long as she isn't chased. For more information about Juliet, contact the Suncoast Animal League. Sandy is 2-years-old and is a 25 lb. terrier-mix with a fun, punk-style hairdo, or fur-do as the case may be. He came to Suncoast as a stray and was named after the dog in "Annie." Sandy a nice boy who walks well on a leash, is house broken, …

Suncoast Animal League Helps Furry Five

The group recently helped some furry friends who were struggling with a case of mistaken identity.

Theirs is a story of mistaken identity and Mexican food. Last week the Suncoast Animal League received a call from the Ehrlich Animal Hospital. Four baby raccoons needed a home. Or so they thought. Someone found the raccoon pups trying to nurse on their deceased mother, who they assumed had been hit by a car in front of a Mexican restaurant in Tampa. Would the Suncoast Animal League be able to take them? Sure, no problem, the league responded. We love helping baby raccoons, the league said in a press release. By the time the four baby raccoons had arrived they had miraculously transformed themselves into five baby opossums. Okay, no problem. The Suncoast Animal League loves helping baby opossums too. Since their mother was tragically …

From Homeless To Happy: Bronx Finds A Home

The Suncoast Animal League recently found a home for a neglected Mastiff.

The staff at the Suncoast Animal League got a big surprise on Wednesday morning. A Mastiff was found tied to the league’s gate at 1030 Pennsylvania Avenue in Palm Harbor. Beside the dog was two bags of dog food.  League officials believe the dog was left by someone, possibly a former owner. However, the large breed dog was not in the best condition. He had lumps and bumps and his ribs were protruding. He also was covered in fleas and tested positive for heartworms. A microchip was found but the chip information led to three non-working numbers and a non-current address in Spring Hill, according to a press release from the league. Though no contact information was available the league was able to determine the dog’s name is “Bronx” and he …

Volunteer Gives Dogs and Furniture a Second Chance

Suncoast Animal League volunteer Tia Bennett has turned her love for animals and yard sale treasures into a new business called "Lucky Dog Gone Green."

Suncoast Animal League volunteer Tia Bennett has her own unique, animal-loving view of the world. When Bennett sees a homeless pooch, she reaches out to help by becoming a foster parent. Dogs are also on Bennett's mind when she's out perusing church tag sales, thrift shops and yard sales. A used chair or a drawer from a bureau might just be unwanted furniture to you and me, but Bennett sees these homeless castaways as objects that can be re-purposed into something stylish and useful, like a dog bed or an elevated dog feeder. "I don't see it as junk, even if it's a weathered old table. It's all about reusing. What can we make that into?" she said. Bennett has turned her love for animals and yard sale treasures into a new business called "…

Lenny is an Exercise Machine, Robbie Has Sparkling Green Eyes

Palm Harbor Patch is proud to help the Suncoast Animal League find a forever home for these great pets.

Lenny is a 4-year-old exercise machine on four legs. This explains his 29-pound, slim and muscular physique. He is a lap dog for two reasons; he'll crawl up in your lap and take a nap and then turn around and do laps with you around the block! Lenny is great with children and other animals. The handsome Cattle Dog mix very much likes to get out and do family things. The only problem is, he doesn't have a family. Lenny is at the Suncoast Animal League office. For more information, please call us at 727-786-1330. Robbie is a 4-year-old tabby with sparkling green eyes. He was a stray, but is such a sweet, affectionate and quiet kitty. It's easy to miss him at the office because he's a quiet guy, who's just hoping to have a home of his own …

Kat is Good at Fetching, Philosopher is Sweet and Affectionate

Palm Harbor Patch is proud to help the Suncoast Animal League find forever homes for these great pets.

Kat is a 2 to 3 year-old, 32 lb. border collie/flat-coated retriever-mix rescued from Alabama. Before she came to the Suncoast Animal League, Kat had spent a whole year at the Alabama shelter and was showing signs that the stress of being confined for that long was affecting her mentally.  Her time was up and she was scheduled to be euthanized until we stepped in. Kat has been in a foster home for the past month and this very special girl is now ready for adoption to the right person. Kat is house-broken and crate-trained. Her favorite thing in the world is to spend time with you. This girl is yearning to have a best friend. Want a hug and kisses with someone who is happy to see you everyday? That's Kat. Want company on your daily …

Rescued Blind Dog to Have Eyes Removed; Donations and New Home Sought

"Mobley" is a blind, 8-year-old cocker spaniel who suffers from glaucoma. She was found wandering in Hillsborough County. Palm Harbor's Suncoast Animal League is arranging for her to have her eyes removed, to ease her pain.

Editor's Note: The following was submitted to Palm Harbor Patch by the Suncoast Animal League -by Rick Chaboudy, Suncoast Animal League Executive Director It was a dark, cold night on Wednesday when she literally, stood blindly in the middle of S. Mobley Avenue in Hillsborough County. Her black coat left her vulnerable to the night and her damaged eyes provided no reflections. Scared and confused, she didn't know which way to turn. Fortunately, a couple traveling that route spotted her before something tragic could happen. After picking her up, they took her to nearby Ehrlich Animal Hospital. The dog was so badly matted that the animal hospital couldn't even tell whether it was a male or female. Thursday, the black cocker spaniel was given…

It's Impossible to Meet Annie and Not Fall in Love, Powder Likes to Have His Belly Rubbed

Palm Harbor Patch is proud to help these great pets find new homes.

If you're a big dog fan, it's impossible to meet Annie and not fall in love. Annie is 8-years-old and is a Rhodesian Ridgeback mix. Annie and her sister Shawnty (who is also with us) were scheduled to be euthanized at Polk County's shelter when Suncoast stepped in to rescue them. We're not sure how they got there, but if they could talk, we're sure they would have some stories to tell.   They were emaciated, shy and had some minor illnesses when they first came to us, but they are healthy and are now ready to find their forever homes. Annie probably weighs 75-to-80 lbs. now and looks young for her age. Of the two, Annie is a bit more outgoing.  She likes to be hugged and leans against you when you pet her, so she can be as close as …
