Two-Year-Old Run Over By Lawn Mower, Loses Both Legs

The girl slipped in front of a lawn mower being driven by her father, according to Palm Harbor Fire Rescue officials.

OUTSIDE TAMPA, FL -- A two-year-old girl was transported to Tampa General Hospital after she fell in front of a lawn mower and had both of her legs severed from her body, according to Palm Harbor Fire Rescue officials.

Palm Harbor firefighters responded to Hollow Ridge Road in the Westlake Village Subdivision around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday night, April 10. 

The girl's father was driving a riding lawn mower in the yard. As the girl ran into the yard, "the mother was screaming at the little girl to stop and the little girl slipped and fell in front of the lawn mower and the father could not stop in time and ran over the girl," according to an email from Palm Harbor Fire Rescue.

Both of the young girl's legs were severed below the knees and she also suffered the partial amputation on her hand, according to the email.

The girl's parents are also being treated for hysteria.

The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office reports that detectives are conducting an investigation, which is normal protocol when children are injured severely. Detectives say preliminary information finds that the accident appears to be accidental.
